Investing in made to measure blinds or shutters is quite different to other types of purchases, like ordering clothes online. You’re inviting a team into your space to measure your windows precisely, give you useful advice, and fit something that you’ll be using every day for years to come. So it’s fair to want reassurance that the company you choose has high standards and takes their service seriously.
At Solihull Blinds, we’ve been fitting window coverings for decades. We’re accredited members of the British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) and supporters of the Make it Safe campaign.
If you’ve spotted the BBSA logo on our site, here’s what that means in practical terms.
All about the BBSA
The BBSA’s purpose is to raise standards across the blinds, shutters and awnings industry and give both consumers and members clear guidance on best practices.
BBSA members agree to follow a Customer Code of Practice that’s designed to support fair trading and a consistent approach to customer service. It also sets out how complaints should be handled, and what happens if a problem can’t be resolved directly.
The key point is this: the BBSA is a trade association, and membership of the BBSA is tied to ongoing expectations around quality, training, safety, and conduct.
Why it pays to work with a member of the BBSA
You’re choosing a company that signs up to a recognised code of practice
Any business can promise “great service”. The difference with an accredited BBSA member is that there’s a clear framework behind that promise.
The BBSA’s Customer Code of Practice is there to make sure members trade fairly and deal with issues promptly and reasonably. If a complaint can’t be resolved between customer and member, the BBSA can offer a mediation route and recommend next steps.
You can have higher confidence in our workmanship (and proof to back it up)
Good fitting matters. It’s what makes blinds hang neatly, shutters sit square, and finishes look intentional rather than “almost right”.
Solihull Blinds was named winner at the BBSA Excellence Awards 2024 for Best Internal Blind Installation and Best Internal Shutter Installation. That recognition is judged within the industry, and it’s a strong signal that the quality you see in a showhome or gallery can carry through into real homes and real installs.
We treat child safety as part of the job, not an optional extra
If you have young children in your home or you’re responsible for a public-facing space, blind safety is non-negotiable.
The BBSA runs the Make it Safe campaign to reduce risks associated with looped cords and chains, and to educate both households and installers. In the UK, internal blinds sold since February 2014 must meet child safety requirements and BBSA guidance is built around that reality.
This means you can expect safety-conscious recommendations from the start. That might include:
- Blind types that are inherently safer by design
- Motorised options where they suit the space
- Appropriate safety devices and fitting approaches when cords or chains are involved
Our advice stays current, especially as products change
Blinds and shutters aren’t static products. Fabrics improve, control options evolve, and guidance changes over time. BBSA membership supports ongoing learning and up-to-date best practice, which feeds into the advice you get in your consultation. That matters whether you’re choosing blackout options for better sleep, smarter control for hard-to-reach windows, low-clutter solutions like concealed blinds, or energy-saving products designed to help with insulation.
There’s extra backup if something goes wrong
Most installations go smoothly. But if an issue does arise, it’s reassuring to know there is a formal route available beyond “back and forth emails”.
The BBSA offers a mediation service for customers of member companies, and it is free for customers to use.
Standards, comfort, and sustainability
Window shading is more than just decoration. Blinds and shutters can help manage privacy, glare and comfort through the seasons.
Solihull Blinds has spoken publicly about working with the BBSA around sustainability and energy efficiency, including the wider role shading can play in making homes greener.
So when you work with us, you can expect conversations that consider both performance and style: especially in rooms that overheat, spaces with screen glare, or homes where comfort is a priority.
